In the little town of Dreamville, when the shops close and the streetlights hum their one long note, one window stays glowing. It is the bakery — and the night baker is just tying on his apron.
But the night baker does not bake bread. Oh no. Bread is for daytime bakers. The night baker bakes dreams.
Would you like to peek inside? Quietly, now. Tiptoe, tiptoe. Press your nose to the warm glass. There he is, humming, rolling out the dream-dough soft and slow.
Into the first batch, he folds a handful of giggles and a splash of ocean. Those will be silly dolphin dreams — very popular with children who wear their socks to bed.
Into the second batch: one scoop of snow, two jingle bells, and a pinch of hot cocoa powder. Sledding dreams. Cozy ones, where you never even get cold.
Into the third batch, the biggest one, he folds something golden. Look closer… it’s sunshine, saved from this very afternoon. He keeps it in jars on the top shelf. These will be flying dreams — the best kind — where you swim through the air over rooftops and everyone waves hello.
The oven he uses is not hot like a bread oven. It is warm like a hug, warm like a lap, warm like the spot where a cat has been sleeping. He slides the dreams in and sets the timer to moonrise.
While they bake, the whole town starts to smell wonderful. Not like cookies exactly. More like clean pajamas, and rain on the window, and the page of a favorite book. The smell of almost-asleep.
Ding! The dreams are ready. Golden and puffed and sparkling just a little at the edges.
Now comes the delivery. No trucks — too loud. The night baker opens the window, and the dreams float out all by themselves, drifting up the streets of Dreamville like warm little clouds. One slips under each door. One curls through each keyhole. One settles onto each pillow, right where a sleepy head will land.
And here is the secret, so keep it safe: one of tonight’s dreams has your name on it. The night baker wrote it in cinnamon. It is floating toward you right now, past the streetlights, up to your window, soft as a whisper.
All you have to do is close your eyes so it can land.
Close them now… there. The baker waves goodnight from his glowing window. Your dream is coming in for a landing — warm, and golden, and baked just for you.
🌙 The End 🌙
Sweet dreams, little one.
